Quick and Simple Homemade Remoulade

This quick and simple homemade remoulade is a mayonnaise-based condiment made with herbs and spices you likely have on hand. You don’t have to use ingredients like capers, cornishones, but you can add them if you want.

What is Remoulade

Remoulade is a delicious dipping sauce for seafood and vegetables. It’s similar to tartar sauce. So, you can serve with fish, fish cakes, and shrimp and blanched or steamed vegetables. It originates from France.

French food is generally considered Mediterranean, and especially the food from Provence.

How to Make a Remoulade

Mix together the following items into a small bowl:

2/3 cups of mayonnaise (I use an avocado-based version or homemade)
2 tablespoons of finely minced scallions )just the green tops)
1 tablespoon of minced fresh parsley
1 tablespoon of lemon juice
1 teaspoon of seasoned salt or Old Bay
1 teaspoon of Dijon mustard
1 minced or crushed garlic clove
1/2 teaspoon of course ground pepper
1/4 teaspoon (or more) of cayenne or a picante pepper


There is a spicier version of remoulade from Louisanna that has more kick. If you’d like to make that version add about 1 tablespoon of Louisiana hot sauce.

Ingredients
  

  • 2/3 cups mayonnaise (avocado based or homemade)
  • 2 tablespoons scallions green tops only, minced
  • 1 tablespoon parsley fresh, minced
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon seasoned salt or Old Bay
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 clove garlic pressed or minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper course ground
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Instructions
 

  • Mix all the ingredients in a small bowl, cover, and let rest in the refrigerator for 30 minutes or until ready to serve.

Notes
